Why You Should Be A Teacher

4 min read

We all had a teacher in school that gave us a little fire. The spark of knowledge - the one that was your favourite. They inspired you, and if you want to be that person, then you can consider teaching as a career path.

One of the wonderful things about teaching is that teachers will always be needed. There will always be little bundles of children that need to soak up as much information as possible.

So here are a few more reasons that you should consider teaching:

Satisfaction

There very few jobs that can have the type of satisfaction you get from teaching people new skills. Aside from parents, teachers have the most significant input into what a child learns, and they have a lot of influence too. Sending children home after they have learned something new, designed a picture or for older kids mastered a theory is a big deal.

Vocation

It isn’t just a job, it is something that you probably need to. Teaching has a lot of issues depending on the country that it is in, and still with lack of funding, long marking hours, early mornings, plays and designing the teaching path for the children - they turn up and do a fantastic job. It is a lot about passion.

Support

Because you see children 5 days a week for 6 or more hours a day, you become an integral part of their support system. When there are issues at home, significant life changes or even small problems, you will become part of their inner circle - this is even more true for teachers of younger pupils.

Career Path

There will be a very clear path for you to follow in most cases. You will go through teacher training, getting a degree, possibly specialise in a specific subject and then start your applying process. From there, you will work towards the head of year, vice-principal and other leadership positions within the schooling system.

Never Stop Learning

One of the greatest things about being a teacher is that you will never stop learning. The knowledge that you impart to your students will be influenced and change with new research.

Salary

In most cases, there is a generous financial package available for teachers. Newly qualified teachers are likely to get a golden hello, and one passed often see somewhere in the region or £22,800+ in Scotland. There are also other additional cash incentives that might meet your circumstances. After you have been qualified for a while, the salary can make significant jumps.

Becoming a teacher is more than just arriving and telling children how the world works, it is nurturing their inquisitive nature, giving them the tools to search for the answers, and supporting them in areas that they need extra help. They get to see children flourish over the years and get a glimpse into what might be their future - and in fact, get to help mould and shape them ready to tackle anything. Teachers are often the unsung heroes in young lives, but a great teacher is one no one ever forgets.
