Starting a business as an entrepreneur is a huge and exciting journey, with many steps along the way.

Managing your time can be both a challenge and a goal to strive towards in business.

Here are five tips to helping you on your way to becoming a whizz at time management.

1: Figure out your Preferred Organisational Method

Some people prefer digital, others prefer a good old-fashioned pen and paper. Figure out your preferred method of organising information and employ the relevant tools to help you.

For example, if you are a fan of digital organisation, if would be wise to use online tools like Google Calendar, which can also be optimised for collaborative use to record family commitments like doctors’ appointments, school plays, and parents’ evenings, as well as family commitments.

Alternatively, if you prefer a pen and paper mentality, you could also invest in a diary to record your day-to-day events. You might also find this easier for prioritising jobs in order of importance too.

2: Use Recruitment Software

Recruitment is known widely as a time-consuming activity, mainly because of how much information needs processing from start to finish.

Recruitment software like Oleeo processes information with ATS and CRM software to incorporate automation into your hiring policies.

This allows you to spend your time on other tasks at hand while your most skilled candidates are selected according to the information they provide in their applications.

3: Take Your Meetings Virtually

Virtual meetings have become commonplace since the Covid-19 pandemic and have consequently changed the face of business as we know it.

Using platforms like Microsoft Teams to host your meetings allows you to be flexible with your travel and working arrangements, with added features like the chat function where you can share files and drop comments.

4: Set a Schedule and Try and Time Your Tasks

Completing tasks on your to do list can seem like a mammoth task but setting a time goal to complete each one will allow you to focus better on the task at hand.

You can also continually assess how long different tasks take you to complete, and whether you need to factor in longer for completion next time.

You can use apps like Clockify to create timesheets of your to-do list and record your productivity.

5: Have Defined ‘Family Time’

It’s easy to blur the boundaries between home life and business life, but prioritising time for your family is essential for your well-being.

If you spend a lot of time working from home, you could try having an automated ‘out of office’ for your email system after a particular time of day or blocking off parts of your calendar for family commitments.

You might also want to have a separate room or space to work in that you don’t otherwise spend time in. This will help to prevent you dipping back into work during time with family.
