Perhaps you’re preparing to give birth to your very first baby and are excitedly planning a gorgeous new nursery? Or maybe, instead, this will be your second or third child and you and your partner are looking for a different setup?

Either way, you’ve clicked on the right article, as here are four top tips for creating and designing a nursery.

1: Interesting Walls

Firstly, without even beginning to consider the types of furniture you’re looking to include in your brand-new nursery, the walls need your attention, even if you were previously set on maintaining a neutral, cream, or off-white base.

Now, although it’s a good idea to ensure that the design aesthetic flows seamlessly from the rest of your house into the nursery, statement murals or unique, eye-catching wallpaper to make the walls significantly more interesting are a good place to start.

2: Vertical Storage Should Prevail

Secondly, you’ll naturally require a large amount of storage, and when you think about just how many different items your new baby will need, storage should also be another major consideration.

Instead of looking for too many baskets and fabric-based drawers and cabinets for the floor, take advantage of the height of the room instead, and hang plenty of open shelves around the perimeter instead.

Vertical storage is especially helpful if you’re intending on converting a smaller room into a nursery, rather than repurposing a second bedroom.

3: Comfortable Carpets

Next, you will naturally be spending an inordinate amount of time in the nursery and as such, you will want to ensure the floor covering is not only durable and comfortable, but also easy to clean, and soft on the skin on both your and your baby’s skin.

Changing tables and stations are all well and good, but often, especially for new mothers and fathers, changing your baby on the floor is easier and more conducive to control, and as such, carpets are most definitely the way to go.

Experienced carpet suppliers and fitters from aflooringboutique.co.uk, will be more than happy to advise you on everything from the right thickness and weight for durability in the new nursery, but also on comprehensive cleaning and carpet care, too.

4: Break Away from Blue & Pink

Regardless of your feelings toward colour and gender, for a stylish aesthetic in the room, it’s time to think outside the box when it comes to themes and instead embrace a timeless, yet statement, design feel.

An excellent example of this is to embrace a nature-based theme and stick to pale and darker greens, both in terms of the colour of the walls and also the pieces of furniture and even the changing mats and other accessories.

Animals and nature as a base theme for the nursery will also lean into educational charts and world maps for wall decoration as your baby grows, and a natural feel and ambience will also contribute to a calming and relaxing atmosphere.
