Mum & Career is the top not-for-profit web-portal in the UK for working mothers that shows combining career and children can be done.
We inspire, support and inform mums with ambition that want a change. We offer the best first stop when you are a working mother looking for a life style that works for you and your family. And it’s all free. No strings attached. Just because we believe in encouraging mothers like you.
Mum & Career was founded in 2010 by Inge Woudstra, who passionately believed in creating a better world for women. Inge’s aim when starting Mum & Career was to inspire and motivate women to find a work-life balance that works for them and their families…
“I started Mum & Career as it really breaks my heart to see it’s just not easy for female professionals after starting a family in the UK. It certainly wasn’t easy for me. Many of us actually opt-out, because we think it is not worth it. However this isn’t a great solution, as you have to battle with loss of career-dreams, a loss of income and financial independence. Others start out on their own or find ways to create their own flexibility. And some of us working mothers find ways to involve their partners more, and focus entirely on their career.
I want to let you know that you are not alone in your struggles to find a way to make it work. It’s just not easy. We all have the same struggles, and this generation just has to learn by trial and error. With Mum & Career I aim to bring to you the lessons others have learned, so it is easier for you to find a good work-life balance.
I want to show you, that you are not a failure if you do find it hard to navigate your career as a mum. You are an intelligent woman, with ambition, but you also care about life and about your family and organisations just aren’t designed for that. So, nothing wrong with you!” – Inge Woudstra
In 2017 Inge handed over the reins to myself, Suzannah Butcher, to concentrate on her core business, W2O Consulting and Training, an organisation which offers executive development, speaking and consulting in gender diversity; a topic which Inge remains extremely passionate about.
My aim is to keep the original ethos of Mum & Career and I’m excited to take over the day-to-day running of this fantastic website. The site will remain free from advertising banners and is run as a not for profit portal. We do ask for a small contribution from people who’d like to submit information to this site, just to cover things like website maintenance, hosting, design work, social media shares and admin, all of which is completed in my own free time (even my husband gets drafted in to help sometimes!).
If you’d like to donate a small amount to buy us a coffee and help keep this site running, you can do so below. We are so grateful for any donations made and every penny goes towards making Mum & Career the best it can possibly be. View our donations page.
Wishing you every success on finding YOUR perfect work/life balance.
