Today’s working mothers often receive some contradictory messages. They are told that they should mother like they don’t work, and work like they don’t need to mother.

But many women are encouraged to get back into professional careers after they become a mother. But of those, a lot of people will say that children can benefit from one parent being in the home. Of course, this isn’t always going to be possible, as there are things that need to be paid for, and some mothers long to be back at work building their career, as well as being a mother.

Many working parents do want to be more engaged with their children, though, especially when they are school-aged, as there can be a lot of things that go on. So as a result, many working mothers will look for careers or job roles that are more flexible, in an efforts to be with children more, but also have an overall better quality of life. There are many businesses that are getting onto the flexible working train, but there is still a long way to go. So if you are working and a mother, and looking for something a little more flexible, then here are some of those jobs that could work for you.

Medical Professions

The thing with medical professions is that there are different shifts to work as hospitals are not things that ever close. So there are night shifts, day shifts, long shifts, and short shifts, which could work around being there for a family.

Law Careers

Working in a law career can be lots of long hours in the early days. But once you are qualified and work for a firm, you can take on part-time work as well as working from home. So whatever you get into, such as working for an expert divorce solicitors or for an employment law firm, there will be ways to make the role flexible, as you can work around school hours and then do more work if needed, once the children are in bed.

IT and Data Roles

Because we are blessed with such a huge range of technology these days, we can use that to our advantage when it comes to choosing a flexible role. It can mean working from a computer in an IT or data based role, as that could be something that you can do from home. You can also do these things in an office, but with the ability to be flexible about the hours that you work.

Sales and Marketing

Sales and marketing are roles that can be really flexible. You can meet clients during school hours, as well as being on the phone at home, and working on your emails behind the scenes and into the evenings. You can plan your day and client meetings around the hours that you work, so it can be easily done from home or from the office, set to the hours that you need. There are a lot of roles that are in these sectors, so there is likely to be one that works for you.
