Super Mum: Transferring Your Natural Skills Into Your Career

4 min read

As a mum, you’ll already be super busy, used to hard work, and a natural ability to manage multiple tasks at once; there’s no job in the world quite like it.

However, perhaps you’re ready to get back into, or start, a job or career path, after taking time to bring up your little ones. If you’ve lost a little confidence in regards to getting a job, don’t worry that’s totally normal; however, remember all the skills you’ve picked up as a mum, and what can contribute to your next adventure.

It’s time to do a little planning, and look into how you’re going to head towards a job that fulfills you so that you can come home and continue being a brilliant mum. There are a variety of ways you can transfer your current qualifications and (mum) skills into the world of  work, so, think about the areas that you’ll be most passionate about. The following are some ideas and inspiration for busy mums who are keen to begin their dream job, and have plenty to offer a workplace, wherever that may be.

Nursing

Aside from you being used to acting quickly, administering what someone needs, and cleaning-up mess; as a mum, you’ll have developed a natural nurturing instinct that can really assist in the world of nursing. So many benefit from a friendly, knowledgeable nurse, and a positive demeanor, especially when they feel at their most vulnerable.

So, if nursing is something you’ve been thinking about, it’s worth considering how you’ll be able to train and fit your hours in around your family life. If you already have your qualifications and are looking to develop your career further, you could look into specialist and niche areas; there are dnp nurse midwifery programs available and paediatric qualifications, that might be just what you’re after. Once you’ve sorted the logistic out (you’re already a pro at that), you'll be able to flourish in a fulfilling career.

Teaching

Much like nursing, teaching is definitely vocational, and you’ll need to have plenty of natural abilities and skills. Perhaps you’ve loved the teaching part of bringing up your little ones, and feel like you can transfer those abilities to a classroom full of children, or teenagers. There are a variety of ways you can train, and it can be flexible in regards to fitting it around family life and childcare. Take a look for online courses, evening classes, and it’s also worth considering a paid-as-you-train option so that you can begin generating an income from the get-go.

Maybe you’ve already got a qualification and teaching experience, but, now you have the kids, you want something that works for you a bit on a flexible basis. You could consider tutoring so that you can pick your hours during evenings and weekends. Heading back into the classroom as an assistant or as a part time teacher on call, could be another way to ensure that your family remain your priority as you transition into a new working life.
