Being a parent can be hard work, no matter how on top of everything you are. From the school run, after-school clubs, half terms and birthday parties, it can all pile up.
But, you also have your own life to lead. So, when you add work, personal and family life together, it can all get a little stressful. You only have to look at the number of people leaving jobs due to the lack of work/life balance.
That’s why it’s important to learn how to manage your time. We’ve highlighted three ways below, to help you manage your time while reducing stress too.
Ask for Help
You’re not superhuman, no matter how much you try to convince yourself otherwise. Hey, even Superman needed help, just look at the Justice League. This doesn’t mean run out and hire yourself a live-in nanny, in fact, you could find help a little closer to home. You own parents may be able to provide help when you need it most, such as in the school holidays when you still have to go to work – all you have to do is ask. Most of the time they’ll probably be happy to help, but just remember to say thanks with a little Card Factory card to show that you appreciate everything they do for you.
Create a Calendar
This will not only help you out but the whole family too. This will allow you to put all dates and events in there, from school holidays and dentist appointments to parties and your own nights out. You could go old school and use one that you place on the wall, however, it’ll be much more efficient to use a shared Google or Apple calendar. Why you may ask, well this way would be better as a shared digital calendar can be updated while you’re on the go, meaning you won’t forget things, ultimately helping to reduce your stress levels in the long run.
Say No
Remember that you need to set boundaries and say no to things. This counts for all walks of life, such as work or going out with friends – you can’t keep everyone happy. Therefore if you learn to say no, not only will you have more time to spend at home, but it’ll also reduce your own stress levels and lead to more efficiency in other aspects of your life, as you can dedicate your time to that. Remember it’s better to do one or two things perfectly than ten things averagely.
